Dear
Subscriber,
Remember
that patient whose daughter didn’t want you to give
pain medication prior to her mother’s wound care? Or
how about the ex-wife who fought to revoke a DNR status until
the patient’s will could be “updated”? Maybe
you cared for a child whose parents refused blood products
for him due to religious reasons? Or perhaps you witnessed
a colleague give a medication to the wrong patient?
The
Code of Ethics for Nurses, developed by the American Nurses
Association, is a statement which addresses ethical obligations
for all nurses, regardless of roles or practice settings.
This tool gives us the foundation on which to build our practice
and when a specific ethical dilemma makes us feel isolated
or alone, it reinforces the fact that we all face ethical
conflicts at some time in our careers.
Take some time to read
the articles and blog in More Resources and explore our latest
feature Focus
On: Nursing Ethics. Also, look for our next issue about
obstructive sleep apnea,
along with the latest articles and CEs.

Physician Infusion Services: Coding & Documentation
Ensure Proper Payment, Support Your Claims
The coding and documentation rules for outpatient infusion services do apply in the clinic setting. Yet, many physician groups aren't even aware of their compliance obligations. Consequently, they may not be appropriately paid for services rendered, or they risk losing reimbursement through payer audits. It's time to bring your facility into full compliance. Start by making sure you know and understand the rules. Our audio seminar on June 16 will walk you through coding and documentation basics, equipping you to realize the correct payment that stands up to an audit.
