Colleague,
 While reading the articles about stroke for this edition of our enewsletter, I learned that 14% of patients in U.S. hospitals will have a stroke while hospitalized. This is a good reminder that we all must be alert for stroke symptoms, no matter where we practice or what patient populations we see most often. Take a moment to remember the following warning signs of stroke from the American Heart Association:
- sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body
- sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
- sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
- sudden, severe headache with no known cause.

- The FDA has approved Abstral (fentanyl) for the management of breakthrough pain in adult cancer patients who already use 24-hour opioid pain medication and who need and are able to safely use high doses of an additional opioid medicine. Abstral is available only through a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program.
- The FDA has approved fentanyl buccal tablets, the generic equivalent to Fentora tablets in 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 mg strengths. Fentanyl is indicated for the management of breakthrough cancer pain in patients who are already receiving and are tolerant of opioid therapy.
