 October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it’s a good time to review these signs and symptoms which warrant further investigation:
- New or persistent breast masses
- Breast masses that are firm, fixed to underlying tissue or muscle, or have indiscrete margins
- Nipple discharge that is unilateral, bloody, spontaneous, or uniduct
- Breast pain that is new, unilateral, not associated with menses
- Breast pain associated with a mass or skin changes
- Nipple or areolar inversion or rashes
- Inflammatory changes that do not resolve with antibiotic
- Peau d’orange

- The Institute for Safe Medication Practices has posted the final Acute Care Guidelines for Timely Administration of Scheduled Medications.
- Avoid adding medications to hanging I.V. solutions. The concerns with this practice include infection control, drug compatibility, and inadequate mixing. If new additives are prescribed, hang a new bottle or bag that has been prepared and dispensed by the pharmacy.
