Dear Colleague,

Believe it or not, the editors, pharmacists, and nurses are beginning work on the 2014 Nursing Drug Handbook! As one of those nurses, I am always eager to get my hands on any articles or information 'drug-related.' Fortunately, our journals are chock-full of great information on new drugs, new indications, labeling changes, and the like. See if you can answer these questions below – the answers can be found in the articles listed under More Resources. Good luck!

  • Fidaxomicin (Dificid) was approved in 2011 to treat what cause of infectious diarrhea?
  • What are the benefits of combination vaccines?
  • Why must heparin be administered parenterally?
  • What topical treatments are available to treat osteoarthritis in older adults?
  • Rivaroxaban (Xarelto) is indicated for stroke prophylaxis in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. What are the two boxed warnings for the drug?
  • What cephalosporin is approved to treat methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus?
  • True or False? Insulin pens are intended for single-patient use only.

Also, check back often to our Drug Updates page for the latest news, articles, and more!
