Dear Colleague,

It's National Nurses in Staff Development Week! I hope you are taking some time to celebrate this special role, whether for yourself or your colleagues. In honor of this week, I'd like to share some Quick Tips for Nurse Educators published in the June issue of Nursing Management:

  • Avoid overreliance on PowerPoint slides.
  • Use eye contact to help your presentation seem more like a higher “conversation.”
  • When creating PowerPoint slides, use a type font that's larger than 32 points and limit your number of slides.
  • Begin with a question and encourage participation and discussion.
  • Use images, graphics, and cartoons to visually stimulate the learners and make your presentation fun.
  • Create clinical scenarios to humanize the topic.
