Drug news

The FDA has issued a new warning and contraindication concerning the concurrent use of the direct renin inhibitor aliskiren (including Tekturna, Tekturna HCT, Amturnide, Tekamlo, Valturna) with ACE inhibitors or ARBs in patients with diabetes or renal impairment. These drug combinations are contraindicated in patients with diabetes and should be avoided in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate of less than 60 mL/min).
