Dear Colleague,

Over the past year, a large number of articles about immunizations were published in our journals. As we approach the 2012-1013 influenza season, it's a good time to brush up on this topic so we can provide the best education to our patients and the public. In Faith Community Nurses: Protecting Our Elders Through Immunizations from the Journal of Christian Nursing, you'll find 3 handy tables: vaccines recommended for the elderly, common misconceptions among the elderly, and recommendations for increasing vaccination rates among this population.  Another good resource can be found in Discussing Vaccination With Concerned Patients: An Evidence-Based Resource for Healthcare Providers from the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing. Here you'll find guidance to answer patients' questions on autism and developmental delays, chemical additives, and more.

Remember, the CDC has resources on seasonal influenza as well as vaccine and immunization recommendations. You can also read more by exploring the articles in More Resources. In addition, American Journal of Nursing has a collection of Influenza Classics from the AJN Archives, which includes content dated from the early days of the journal – 1918! Very interesting to compare then and now!

A tool to help nurses do their jobs more effectively and efficiently

Nurses who provide infusion services work under tremendous pressure. Besides their clinical responsibilities, they are expected to identify or enter procedure codes for the billing of services.
