Dear Colleague,

“Knowledge deficit related to ______ as manifested by _______."  This was a required nursing diagnosis on all of my care plans during nursing school. We all know that patient education is a big part of what we do as nurses, however it is not always easy to set aside time for teaching. These days, many of us are struggling to fit patient education into our already busy shifts. Some of us may even be doing all of our patient education during the discharge process, without any time to evaluate the effectiveness of our teaching. Does this sound familiar?
