Dear Colleague,
What exactly is evidence-based practice (EBP) and why is it so important? EBP involves the incorporation of three components – research, clinical expertise, and patient preferences – to improve practice, improve outcomes, and decrease healthcare costs. It is not enough to base practice on one research study; a critical analysis of available research, putting the findings in the context of your organization, and adding the perspectives and judgment of clinicians and patients is essential.
Want to learn more about EBP? Lippincott’s Evidence-Based Practice Network is full of journal content related to understanding and implementing evidence-based practice both professionally and clinically. Also available are several tools and continuing education activities from The Joanna Briggs Institute, a leading international, research and development organization. A selection of these articles and tools are listed in our More Resources box, but be sure to explore the entire site for much more!
Sincerely,

Lisa Bonsall, MSN, RN, CRNP
Clinical Editor
