Patients at increased risk of bleeding include those age 65 or older; those with a history of bleeding disorders, anemia, or renal impairment; and those patients taking other drugs that increase the risk of bleeding, such as antiplatelet agents or NSAIDs. Remember to teach patients ways to minimize the risk of bleeding, such as using a soft toothbrush and electric razor, as well as home safety and fall prevention with the use of handrails, night lights, and nonslip rugs.
