A new report from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality shows that septicemia was the sixth most common reason for hospitalization in 2009 and hospital stays for septicemia were the most expensive reason for hospitalization.

A recent study seeks to determine the views of intensive care nurses, intensivists, and primary physicians regarding collaboration and other aspects of withholding and withdrawing therapy in the ICU.

For patients with H1N1-related ARDS, referral and transfer to an ECMO center was associated with lower hospital mortality.
