Did we meet Healthy People 2010 goals?
The nation met or made progress toward 71% of the goals for Healthy People 2010. Average life expectancy increased by 1 year, and death rates declined in many of the program's focus areas.
FDA intends to regulate EHRs as medical devices
The FDA released its action plan for revising the 510K program, which requires medical device manufacturers to notify the FDA of their intent to market a medical device. The current program has drawn criticism by the IT industry, the Institute of Medicine, and members of Congress.
Communication goes both ways, reminds AHRQ
A new educational campaign by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) emphasizes the importance of patients and providers engaging in effective two-way communication to ensure safer care and better health outcomes.
Per CDC: Infections down, compliance up
According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), four common healthcare-associated infections decreased in incidence last year. In addition, provider adherence to infection control measures increased.
