This edition of Executive Extra comes on the cusp of the 2012 national Magnet® meeting in Los Angeles. As the official leadership journal of the Magnet Recognition Program,® JONA provides monthly content on this internationally recognized designation. In October, the program director offers an overview of the rationale and process for revision of the 2008 Magnet Manual.®
Below, we explore the aspects of nursing administrative practice and preparation. Our AONE/CGEAN partners discuss graduate practicums in nursing administration. Members of a task force exploring clinical experiences and intensity in graduate education report survey results on the presence of nursing administrative preceptorships and the hours required for study programs. In a separate article, we delve into the developmental needs of charge nurses. The authors of this manuscript view these often informal leaders as a talent pool for future succession planning in nursing management and executive roles.
