Dear Colleague,

It's American Heart Month! Do you know about The Million Hearts initiative? It's the new initiative aimed at preventing 1 million myocardial infarctions and strokes in the next 5 years. Public and private organizations partnering with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in this campaign are the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Nurses Association, the American Medical Association, and the American Pharmacists Association.

The Million Hearts initiative is focused on two goals:
1. Empowering Americans to make healthy choices in the areas of tobacco cessation and reducing intake of transfat and salt

Preventing CVD in Women: The NP's Role Advocacy in Practice: Creating a Heart Healthy Future with the Million Hearts Initiative INSPIRING CHANGE: Increasing Patient Education for Heart Failure Aspirin for Primary Prevention of Myocardial Infarction: WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE? Knowledge of Cardiovascular Risk Factors, Self-nurturance, and Heart-Healthy Behaviors in Women A Life Course Approach to Cardiovascular Disease Prevention

2. Improving care for people who need treatment by focusing on the ABCs:

* Aspirin for people at risk
* BP control
* Cholesterol management and Cessation of smoking
