Are extended work hours safe?

Less Americans seeking health information

The proportion of American adults seeking information about a personal health concern from a source other than their physician dropped to 50% in 2010, down from 56% in 2007, according to a recent national study by the Center for Studying Health System Change.


ED visits involving energy drinks increase

According to a new report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Drug Abuse Warning Network, there was a sharp increase in the number of ED visits involving energy drinks between 2005 (1,128 visits) and 2008 and 2009 (16,053 and 13,114 visits, respectively), representing a tenfold increase.


Making strides in COPD awareness

Awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease—the nation’s third leading killer—continues to rise in the United States, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
