More ICU beds, please
A study conducted in France suggests that a shortage of ICU beds is leading to preventable deaths. Researchers noted that almost 15% of 1,332 patients sent to one of the 10 ICUs were turned away (temporarily) due to bed shortages. The 60-day mortality rate for patients turned away was 33% versus 27% for patients immediately admitted.

Does your facility practice SAFE CARE?
The Joint Commission’s SAFE CARE program provides patients and families instant access to current safety videos at the beside. This program uses free posters with QR codes that hospitals can hang in patients’ rooms. Patients and their families then capture the QR code with their smart phones (or by texting the word “SAFE” to 411247) and they’ll be directed to SAFE CARE’s safety video library.
