The National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health and Health Care (National CLAS Standards) are intended to advance health equity, improve quality, and help eliminate healthcare disparities by providing a blueprint for individuals and healthcare organizations to implement culturally and linguistically appropriate services.
New maternal health initiative
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine have launched the Maternal Health Initiative—a large, multi-group, collaborative effort aimed at reducing maternal morbidity and mortality in the United States by 50%, as well as reducing racial and ethnic maternal health disparities.
HIV screening recommendations
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has released its final recommendation statement on HIV screening: Clinicians should screen all people age 15 to 65, younger adolescents and older adults who are at an increased risk for HIV infection, and all pregnant women, including those in labor whose HIV status is unknown.
