Hospitalizations increase for alcohol and drug overdoses in young adults

Hospitalizations for alcohol and drug overdoses, alone or in combination, increased dramatically among 18- to 24-year-olds between 1999 and 2008, according to a study by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.


Did we meet Healthy People 2010 goals?

The nation met or made progress toward 71% of the goals for Healthy People 2010, according to the CDC. Average life expectancy increased by 1 year and death rates declined in many of the program's focus areas. However, health disparities decreased for only 7% of the program's objectives and obesity rates increased across all age groups.


ED visits for traumatic brain injuries on the rise

According to the CDC, the number of annual traumatic brain injury-related ED visits increased significantly between 2001 and 2009 from 153,375 to 248,418, with the highest rates among males age 10 to 19.
