For every dollar spent on healthcare-related fraud and abuse investigations, the government has recovered $7.90. In fiscal year 2012, the program recovered $4.2 billion in taxpayer money.

A report published by the Institute of Medicine examines the state of drug manufacturing in America and abroad. The report assesses the global public health impact of falsified, substandard, and counterfeit pharmaceuticals and includes a plan to invest in improving public health.
Preparedness bill passes in Senate
The Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Reauthorization Act recently passed in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee. The bill would reauthorize a number of critical preparedness activities and programs through fiscal year 2017, including the Hospital Preparedness Program and the Emergency System for Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals and Medical Reserve Corps.
