IOM reviews Healthy People 2020

The Department of Health and Human Services has asked the Institute of Medicine to review the Healthy People 2020 objectives and identify 12 key topics, 24 key objectives, and 24 leading indicators that are critical to the nation’s health needs.

The National Conference of State Legislatures has launched a database to capture state actions related to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care Education and Reconciliation Act. More than half of ED visits for drug reactions are older adults

According to a new Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration study, adults ages 50 and older make up 51.5% of ED visits related to adverse reactions to medications.


Number of U.S. cancer survivors increases

The number of cancer survivors increased from 9.8 million in 2001 to 11.7 million in 2007, according to a new CDC report.
