Patients more satisfied with hospital care

Hospitals are improving the inpatient care experience, according to a study reported in Health Affairs, with the largest increases in staff responsiveness and discharge information.


Lower mortality seen at higher-ranked hospitals

A new study from HealthGrades shows that patients at hospitals performing better than average on a variety of procedures and diagnoses have a lower risk of mortality compared with patients at low-performing hospitals.


The Joint Commission wants your comments

The Joint Commission is seeking comments through December 3 on draft inpatient performance measures for sudden cardiac arrest.


CDC: Self-reported tobacco use varies by state

To assess state-specific current cigarette smoking and smokeless tobacco use among adults, the CDC analyzed data from the 2009 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, which indicated a wide variation in self-reported cigarette smoking prevalence and smokeless tobacco use.
