Measure Applications Partnership issues final report

In its final report, Coordination Strategy for Healthcare-Acquired Conditions and Readmissions Across Public and Private Payers, the Measure Applications Partnership makes three recommendations: 1) We need a national core set of safety measures that are applicable to all patients; 2) We need to collect data elements necessary for calculating the measures in the safety core set on all patients, regardless of care setting, age, or who pays their healthcare bills; and 3) We need to help public- and private-sector entities coordinate their efforts to make care safer, shared “carrots” or incentives are key.


Hospitalizations increase for alcohol and drug overdoses in young adults

Hospitalizations for alcohol and drug overdoses, alone or in combination, increased dramatically among 18- to 24-year-olds between 1999 and 2008, according to a study by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
