1% of Americans responsible for 20% of healthcare expenses

In 2008, 1% of the U.S. population accounted for 20.2% of total healthcare expenditures and 20% of the population in the top 1% retained this ranking in 2009, according to a new study from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.


CDC: U.S. obesity prevalence unchanged

According to a recent CDC report, more than one-third of adults and almost 17% of youth were obese in 2009 to 2010. There was no change in the prevalence of obesity among adults or children from 2007 to 2008 to 2009 to 2010.


Ready or not? Country-wide disaster preparedness eroding

According to the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation ninth annual report “Ready or Not? Protecting the Public from Diseases, Disasters, and Bioterrorism,” key programs that detect and respond to bioterrorism, new disease outbreaks, and natural or accidental disasters are at risk due to federal and state budget cuts.
