A national study indicates that the percentage of male registered nurses has gone from 2.7% in 1970 to 9.6% in 2011. In addition, the percentage of male practical and licensed vocational nurses jumped from 3.9% in 1970 to 8.1% in 2011. Liana Landivar, the report’s author, says that the demand for long-term care and end-of-life services is growing due to the country’s aging population.

Individuals infected with the carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) superbug may have to wait a full year before recovering, according to new research. While CRE is still rare, different forms of it have increasingly been reported in the U.S.
