Medical panel wants everyone 15 to 65 to undergo HIV test

A panel of medical experts have finalized their recommendation that all individuals ages 15 to 65 should be screened for HIV, as recent evidence supports that the infection is managed best when treated early. The recommendation, which comes from the US Preventive Service Task Force, is an attempt to address a significant issue: The time in which patients respond best to treatment is also when symptoms are least detectable.

FDA lowers age for morning-after pill

The FDA has announced that it will make the Plan B One-Step pill available without a prescription for girls/women 15 and older. The decision will take the pill from behind pharmacy counters and place it next to other family planning items, and customers will have to provide a form of identification to purchase it.

Breast cancer is more fatal for women with cosmetic implants

According to a meta-analysis, breast cancer appears to be more fatal for women with cosmetic implants. Researchers stated that breast cancer patients with implants were 38% more likely to die from the disease as compared to those without them. They also stated that although most studies do not point to a significant correlation between breast implants and breast cancer, a link, however, is plausible.

Mediterranean diet might help fight dementia

A new study suggests that eating fish, chicken, olive oil, and other foods high in omega-3 fatty acids while avoiding meats and dairy will help older adults keep their memory and thinking skills intact. Researchers said that adherence to the Mediterranean diet was associated with lower risk of cognitive impairment. In addition, data showed that those following the diet were 19% less likely to develop memory and thinking problems.
