Advanced laser brain surgery has significant benefits for epilepsy patients

Laser ablation, a new surgery technique being widely adopted by the healthcare community is now being used to treat patients with epilepsy. The procedure is an alternative to risky and traditional surgery which included removing part of the skull and cutting through healthy brain matter. Experts feel that this method will have beneficial and minimally invasive outcomes for those undergoing complex brain surgeries.
 

Elderly patients are at increased risk for complications after thyroid surgeries

A recent study published by The Endocrine Society's Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM) found that the elderly population suffers a greater risk for several postsurgery issues including serious cardiac, pulmonary, and infectious complications. The study supported the fact that younger patients undergoing thyroid surgery were at a much lower risk for these complications, and that the elderly must receive additional monitoring postsurgery to prevent such serious complications.
 

Eyelid surgery is considered a new treatment option for impaired vision

The Atlantic Eye Center is now utilizing radio frequency instead of surgical knives to remove excess tissue around the eye area. Doctors conclude that this procedure modification prevents excessive bleeding, and is extremely significant to patients suffering from impaired vision due to sagging eyelids. The procedure lasts around 20 minutes and patients can return to regular activity in a few days.
