Nurses fight back against training in abortion procedure

A group of nurses at a Newark, New Jersey hospital has fought against the required assistance of nurses in abortions by arguing that they are working against their personal and religious beliefs. The requirement has been temporarily lifted but a final decision on the issue is still pending.


FDA approves a revolutionary procedure for open heart surgery

Patients who have experienced a decline in their quality of life due to complications with their aortic valves, can now find relief in a recently approved and incredibly effective heart surgery. Aortic valve replacement can now be done with a small skin cut and improve the cardiovascular health of patients dramatically. This new procedure is currently being refined with the collaboration of surgeons and cardiologists, and has the ability to increase the lifespan of patients dealing with these cardiovascular conditions.


Healthcare sector ranks high in workplace related injuries report

A study released by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that injuries in the workplace are extremely high in the healthcare sector. The report encourages employers to emphasize the importance of record keeping in order to help lower the number of work related injuries.


Liver donors experiencing significant health risks years after transplant surgery

Based on a high demand for healthy organ donations, many healthy individuals are put at risk for post-operative physical and psychological health issues. A German study reported that donor participants experienced complications ranging from severe depression to food intolerance. Doctors conclude that the study shows a need for close physical and psychological evaluation of the donor years after the transplant takes place.
