Title: Reexamining Fatigue Implications for Nursing Practice

Abstract: A growing body of scientific evidence demonstrates negative effects of fatigue on human performance. Nursing practice encompasses many tasks that require optimal performance. Fatigue can be the result of a multitude of contributing causes. Nurses and nursing leaders must be aware of the causes and effects of fatigue and ensure that its impact is considered where staffing and patient safety intersect.

Title: Nurses Slow to Report Errors
Authors: Nurses know that communicating errors is important. However, a recent study explains that nurses provide several reasons as to why they fail to report medical errors. Time for actually filling out error reports, not thinking the error warrants a report, or lack of knowledge regarding what happens to error reports once they are made are all indicated as barriers to error reporting.

Title: Violence Against Nurses Working in U.S. Emergency Departments

Abstract: Violence against ED nurses is highly prevalent. Precipitating factors to violent incidents identified by respondents is consistent with the research literature; however, there is considerable potential to mitigate these factors. Commitment from hospital administrators, ED managers, and hospital security is necessary to facilitate improvement and ensure a safer workplace for ED nurses.
