Stem Cells Save Diabetic Foot from Amputation

At the recently held International Cellular Medicine Society’s Annual International Congress on Regenerative and Cell Based Medicine Conference, it was announced that a patient recovered from a gangrenous diabetic foot ulcer through stem cell therapy.


New Reimbursement Codes Assigned

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services assigned 2 new procedure codes for the application of Dermagraft, for diabetic foot ulcers, that went into effective January 1, 2011.


Peptides Promote Wound Healing

Researchers at the Tufts Center for Innovations in Wound Healing Research, Boston, Massachusetts, found that newly-created bioactive peptides increased angiogenesis in vitro by 200 percent.


Clinical Trial Data Shows Promise for Diabetic Wounds Drug

Phase II clinical trial data for a biological drug appears to be delivering efficacy at a level significantly greater than has been seen in any other treatments for patients suffering from chronic ischemic diabetic wounds, according to the manufacturer.

Physician-specific wound care certification exams

The Council for Medical Education and Testing is the only physician-specific wound care certifying organization in the United States. The next examination date is: February 26, 2011, 11 AM to 4 PM, at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel at LAX-Los Angeles Airport Hotel, Los Angeles, California.
