Exploring the lives of nurses

clock May 11, 2013 01:20 by author Lisa Bonsall, MSN, RN, CRNP

As Nurses Week is winding down, I am honored to share this excerpt from “The American Nurse.” Created by Carolyn Jones, this book explores the unique lives of nurses using photographs and personal stories.

This infographic was shared with us by Erica Moss, who is the community manager for the online nursing programs at Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Studies.

Celebrate your specialty!

National Nurses Week ended last week and now many are celebrating National Neuroscience Nurses Week. I feel that these "scheduled" days of recognition are a nice way to celebrate the hard work that nurses do everyday. I also think that these days bring us in touch with associated professional organizations and in some cases, even one step closer to certification. On that note, I thought I’d compile a list of special nursing celebrations planned for the rest of this year. Here we go:

I tried to be thorough in my search for these special days of recognition, but I’m sure there are more to add to this list. Just let me know!  My wish is that no matter your specialty or area of practice, you feel recognized and appreciated each day throughout the year…you deserve it!

Getting ready for National Nurses Week

clock May 4, 2010 04:47 by author Lisa Bonsall, MSN, RN, CRNP

When I first became a nurse, I really looked forward to National Nurses Week. We got the pens, free lunch (or whatever meal coincided with your shift), and one year, even T-shirts. It didn’t matter that I had many pens of better quality, ate the free meal while charting or grabbing bites in between patient care, or that my T-shirt drawer was overflowing. I was a nurse and I was valued by my employer. Those little things really did make me feel special. Did I feel less recognized on other days or weeks of the year? Not really. I was fortunate to work with a great team of nurses and managers.

This year, I’m really looking forward to National Nurses Week again! We’ve got a week of puzzles and quizzes planned here at NursingCenter.  Each day one lucky winner will win open access to NursingCenter.com for one full year. This includes access to our journals, CEs, Focus On collections, and more! Also, 5 lucky winners each day will win a Free CE! Visit our National Nurses Week page every day from May 6th to May 12th for a new challenge and a chance to win!

I hope that wherever you work and whatever your role, you feel appreciated every day for the work that you do.  Happy National Nurses Week!
