SECTION II

a.nortriptyline 10 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg, 75 mg

 

This tricyclic antidepressant should be used with caution in patients with glaucoma or a history of urinary retention. Adverse reactions include drowsiness, weight gain, hypotension, blurred vision, and constipation.

 

b.phenelzine 15 mg

 

A monoamine oxidase inhibitor, this drug is suitable for use in patients who've failed to respond to other antidepressants. To avoid a dangerous food-drug interaction, teach patients taking this drug to avoid foods and beverages that contain high concentrations of tyramine or dopamine (pickled/smoked foods, liver, dry sausage, sauerkraut, beer, red wine, cheese, yogurt) as well as excessive amounts of chocolate and caffeine.

 

c.duloxetine 20 mg, 30 mg, 60 mg

 

This serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor is given once daily without regard to meals. Common adverse reactions include nausea, dry mouth, constipation, somnolence, hyperhidrosis, and anorexia.

 

d. bupropion 75 mg, 100 mg

 

An aminoketone-derivative antidepressant, this drug is contraindicated in patients with a seizure disorder and those with a current or prior diagnosis of bulimia or anorexia nervosa. Common adverse reactions include headache/migraine, agitation, dry mouth, insomnia, nausea/vomiting, constipation, and tremor.
