I've collected a few books about health and nursing and was glad for the opportunity to clean out my bookshelves and donate these to health care professionals in Afghanistan ("Starting from Scratch: Training Nurses in Afghanistan," In Our Community, January).

After filling almost three boxes, I addressed them to a nurse who was quoted in the article and is involved with Operation Medical Libraries, the organization that collects the books. She's now assigned to Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, but although I included the base's address, I didn't know the army post office (APO) code required for delivery. I called the base to determine the correct APO code, but my call hasn't been returned.

The boxes are now sitting in my garage. If you really want books, you should provide a useful address.

Author Irene M. Wielawski responds: The article included Operation Medical Libraries' Web site, http://opmedlibs.medalumni.ucla.edu, which contains information about how to donate books. Click on "How to Donate Books" and then on "POC List." This opens a document containing the APO addresses and names of medical service personnel currently in Afghanistan who've agreed to receive books.
