Abstract

More families must choose between health care and other critical needs in the current economic climate. Fortunately, the federal government program, Vaccines for Children (VFC), helps parents avoid such choices by providing vaccines to eligible children and teens at no or low cost. NACCHO launched a campaign to increase awareness of VFC in an attempt to prevent a decline in immunization rates due to lack of access to immunization services associated with changed insurance status. The campaign began with a Radio Media Tour, followed by radio public service announcements distributed to radio stations across the county. A third phase of the campaign consisted of printed materials advertising VFC, available to local health departments at no cost. NACCHO's VFC campaign garnered positive feedback from local health departments and had high uptake of campaign resources.
