Abstract

ABSTRACT: Skin plays an important role in protection from pathogens, utilizing both innate and acquired immune responses. When the immune response is aberrant, common dermatologic diseases such as psoriasis and eczema can result. Scientific advances have increased our understanding of the immunobiology of skin diseases, leading to new therapeutic developments, such as psoriasis treatments that target the Th17 pathway. Here we review the basic immunology of the skin, the immunobiology of psoriasis and eczema, new therapeutic developments for psoriasis, and treatment strategies for eczema.
