"Reach out and touch somebody's hand, make this world a better place if you can[horizontal ellipsis]" is the beginning of the song made famous by Diana Ross in 1970; the lyrics are still popular today. This song could be the theme song of the NAON Foundation Board of Trustees. We are constantly striving to make the world a better place by providing educational opportunities to the NAON community. Traditional methods used in the past of reaching out to you no longer exist; the information superhighway gives us the opportunity to reach you in a timely manner. Are you allowing us to touch you? Are you checking our Web site? Are you on our e-mail list? If you answer "no," here is what you are missing:

* Announcements of scholarships and grants. This year we have provided scholarships to NAON's Congress, a Leadership Scholarship, an Office Total Hip and Knee Fellowship as well as undergraduate and graduate online degree scholarships to Grand Canyon University. The Clara Donahoo Lectureship has returned to the Foundation and is now the Clara Donahoo Memorial Clinical Lectureship. The reformatted Lectureship will be presented at the 2012 Congress. Other opportunities are in the planning stages.

* Events at NAON's Congress sponsored by the Foundation. Our "Evening At Orioles Park at Camden Yard" this year was a success! We combined fun, food, and education for a unique experience, while providing financial support to the Foundation. Is there a tradition in the making?

* Participation in a global effort. Our partnership with MedShare addresses the equipment and supply needs of underserved populations around the world, while lessening the impact of medical waste in the United States; join us in this effort.

* About us. Review our mission, learn who is serving on the Foundation's Board of Trustees, and other news we think would be of interest to you.

The information superhighway is a two-way street. You can reach out and touch us by:

* Goodsearch.com. Search the Web at http://www.goodsearch.com, a Yahoo search engine, and the NAON Foundation will receive a penny for every search without you spending a dime! Do you like to shop via the Internet? Shop at the Goodsearch Web site, where you will receive coupons or connect by links to merchants such as Staples, Target, PetSmart, Avon, and Delta Airlines, and we will receive a donation from the merchant, again without costing you a cent!

* Add a "brick" to our wall. Purchase a "brick" at the various levels of the Foundation Club and enable us to reach out even further to the NAON community to provide more of our existing educational opportunities and initiate new offerings on our wish list.

* Automatic recurring credit card donations. Include the Foundation in your annual budget and we will do the work for you. A new service now available enables you to simply complete the Automatic Recurring Credit Card Donation Authorization Form on our Web site and e-mail or fax to us and we will automatically make a charge to your credit card monthly; you don't have to do any further work. Your gifts will be applied to the various levels of the Foundation Club as they occur.

* Support our Congress events. Let your taste buds experience Canjun country at the New Orleans School of Cooking at the 2012 Congress; if we have your e-mail address, you will receive an invitation. Congress would not be Congress without our annual Health Walk and Electronic Raffle, so don't forget to purchase your tickets when registering for Congress or visit our booth in the exhibit hall. Perhaps you or your chapter would like to sponsor an electronic for the Electronic Raffle; we would love to hear from you.

* Your input. Have a suggestion for a scholarship or grant? Perhaps you have a scholarship or grant funding source for us to work with in the development of a new offering. Or, would you or someone you know like to sponsor one of our fundraising activities? We would really like for you to reach out and touch us!

Reach out to us through the superhighway by visiting our Web site at naonfoundation.org (sign up for our e-mail list here if you are not already on it); touch us by e-mailing to [email protected]. For a conversation call 678.341.0809. We look forward to grasping your hand as we work together to make our orthopaedic community, and thereby the world a better place.
