Abstract

ABSTRACT: Nutrition is an important factor for the health of our skin. Vitamin deficiency manifestations can be dated back through the ages to the ancient Egyptians. In today's health-conscious society, many people look at nutrition for health factors, including effects on cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular fitness, and weight control, but nutrition affects all of the body systems and functions including the skin. Nutrition of the skin also reflects a person's overall general health. Skin needs to be nourished from the inside out and from the outside in. Skin is also compromised from internal and external factors. Proteins, essential fatty acids, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and antioxidants all play an important role in skin health affecting our patients of all ages from infancy through geriatrics.
