October is finally here, which means that Nursing Management Congress, the premier nursing management event of the year, takes place in Dallas, Tex., the 13th to the 16th. The Congress planning panel includes nurse leaders, speakers, and entrepreneurs who've poured their hearts and souls into organizing the most inspirational and career-enhancing Congress ever.

Preparing for tomorrow

Congress2002's theme, "Deep in the Heart of Leadership," provides the guiding principle for the curriculum. More than 1,500 anticipated colleagues will delve knee-deep into the hottest leadership and management topics of the day. World-renowned experts will share all that's exciting and successful in nursing and patient care delivery. You'll hear from the health care industry's most sought-after speakers on topics such as Magnet certification, conflict resolution, financial savvy, performance management, and recruitment and retention.

Must-attend Congress events include association-sponsored programs and networking sessions. Learn from the masters-those from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the American Organization of Nurse Executives, and the American Association of Nurse Attorneys. Then, confer with your peers about pressing topics such as preparing for JCAHO surveys, implementing quality indicators, and utilizing progressive care units.

Round out your experience with a visit to the poster presentations, where you'll view innovative, real-life examples of leadership practices that achieve results in health care arenas nationwide. And don't forget to browse the exhibit hall, which offers countless opportunities for interaction with technology experts.

Remembering yesterday

Last year, attendees were enjoying Congress in sunny Florida when, together, we experienced the tragedy of September 11th and witnessed the unparalleled strength, grace, and passion that define America. Since then, most of you who attended the 2001 conference have told me that you'll always remember the feeling of comfort and solace that being with your colleagues brought you. Many of you have said that you wouldn't miss Congress2002 for anything in the world. You want to reconnect with others from around the country, hear their stories, and share your own reflections.

At Congress2002, we'll celebrate all that nurses did to care for the victims of the attacks, to support the communities in which the attacks occurred, and to heal our nation. Moving tributes will touch your hearts and commemorate the many heroes among us.

Dallas provides a fantastic site for relaxation and to learn new things, meet new friends, get rejuvenated, and recommit to continued excellence in nursing leadership. So, pack your best Western gear and meet us in Dallas-"Deep in the Heart of Leadership." It's not too late to register.
