Abstract

Chronic health-related issues and disability are strongly associated with aging. As a result, older adults may experience physical limitations or the inability to perform activities of daily living, including meal preparation, which can have a negative effect on their nutritional status. Clinical management of chronic conditions and disability will become increasingly costly as the population ages. Participation of the registered dietitian in the management of nutritional issues that affect older adults may be a more economical and sustainable approach to chronic disease management. This article discusses evidence-based nutrition interventions that optimize the nutritional status of older adults.
