Abstract

ABSTRACT: Nickel is a common cause of allergic contact dermatitis in children and adolescents in the United States. If the cause of the initial and localized dermatitis is unrecognized, then further and chronic exposure to nickel can lead to widespread and uncontrollable dermatitis (autoeczematization or Id reaction). Because nickel is ubiquitous, a reaction can be insidious and elusive. This case is presented with a young fisherman's son to heighten awareness of this condition in the hopes of lowering the significant morbidity that can be experienced from sources of nickel.
