Beginning with the first international program in Hong Kong in 1999, Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) has become a widely recognized educational program for trauma nurses around the world. Nowhere is this more evident than in ATCN Region 14, where ATCN Europe (an organization of ATCN programs located in continental Europe) has become the first nursing organization to be recognized as an organizational member of the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES). ATCN Europe members from France, Portugal, and Germany, along with the ATCN International Director, presented during a breakout session at the European Congress for Trauma and Emergency Surgery, held in Vienna, Austria, on April 26, 2016. The leadership of ESTES has expressed interest in seeing more activity from nursing organizations at their annual congress. ATCN Europe will play a vital role in bringing additional European nursing groups and organizations together and is working closely with the Society of Trauma Nurses to identify strategies to facilitate communication and networking among the diverse cultures and languages of the European nursing community.
