Abstract

More than 90% of patients who are admitted to an acute care setting or home and ambulatory care services receive some form of infusion therapy that is integral to their treatment plan. The patient's immune system status is an important variable to consider in the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for the multiple and varied types of infusion therapies the patient may require. Infusion nurses have a major role in the provision of these infusion therapies and a responsibility to be knowledgeable about the immune system.
