Alegent Health received the 2004 Optimas Award from Workforce Management magazine for its success in recruiting and retaining key staff members despite the nursing shortage.

Polly Davenport, RN, became chief nursing officer of Methodist Hospital and Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital, San Antonio, Texas. Also, Sue Ann Fuschak, RN, accepted additional responsibilities as chief nursing officer of the Methodist Heart Hospital and Neuro-science Services at Meth odist Hospital.

 

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations appointed Colleen J. Goode, RN, PhD, FAAN, CNAA, to its Standards and Survey Procedures Committee as an at-large nursing representative.

 

The Texas Nurses Association recognized Rose Koneski, RN, MSN, FNP-C, clinical manager and interim director of transplant services, Seton Medical Center, Austin, and Mary Viney, RN, MSN, director of patient care services, Seton Northwest Hospital, Austin, with its outstanding nurse award.

 

Zina Mirsky, RN, EdD, associate dean of the University of California, San Francisco, School of Nursing, received the university's Martin Luther King Jr. Award for promoting an environment of appreciation for cultural diversity on campus.

Ann Whall, RN, PhD, FAAN, professor of nursing at University of Michigan School of Nursing, Ann Arbor, Mich., received the Doris Schwartz Award in Gerontological Nursing from the Gerontological Society of America.
