INTRODUCTION

On behalf of the entire 2004 Program Committee, I am proud to invite you to the 19th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. The national Annual Meeting fosters AACVPR's main goals: to improve clinical practice, to promote scientific inquiry, and to advance education for the benefit of healthcare professionals and the public.

You will notice among the abstracts and posters AQ a wide variety of topics representing the diverse interests and needs of practitioners in our field. The Program Committee has recruited speakers to provide state-of-the-art presentations concerning the scientific principles, latest advances, and newest challenges impacting rehabilitation. Additionally, our Pre-Meeting Workshops on the treatment of obesity and stress management provide an opportunity for an in-depth study of these critical rehabilitation issues.

Check out what's new!! In addition to the many cutting-edge lectures and poster presentations, you can visit the AACVPR Annual Meeting Exhibitor Showcase to get updates on innovative products, services, and equipment that assist in enhancing our practices.

Avoid reinventing the wheel!! Our diverse membership includes some of the world's foremost cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation professionals, sharing their experience in both structured sessions and informal conversations. Science, practice, reimbursement, leadership, program certification, and legislative action are topics that draw us to meet each year. Particularly exciting this year will be an emphasis on innovative approaches to the delivery of rehabilitation services and how you can obtain payment for these services.

Re-energize your career and your spirit!! Take a step back from "the daily grind" to assess your current practices and focus on the future enhancements. The AACVPR Annual Meeting is also a great time to reconnect with old friends, meet new associates, and enjoy another part of our country.

Long Beach, here we come!! Our 2004 host is centrally located to all Southern California attractions, and just a boat ride away from Catalina Island. You can enjoy a day at the Aquarium of the Pacific or tour the majestic Queen Mary and still have time for that bike ride at sunset.

The Program Committee, in conjunction with our local affiliate societies-the California Society of Cardiac Rehabilitation (CSCR) and the California Society of Pulmonary Rehabilitation (CSPR)-have put together "An Adventure at the Aquarium" on Friday evening, October 8 that will feature an evening of networking as you enjoy one of the largest aquariums in the United States. You'll journey through the three major regions of the Pacific Ocean as you enjoy more than 1000 species and over 30 major exhibits in this unique venue.

We look forward to greeting you at another successful meeting this year. The knowledge you take home will enhance your practice, enrich your career, and ultimately improve our field.

See you in Long Beach!!

All the best,
