Hawaii has the lowest overall mortality rate for women, and Colorado has the lowest rate of obesity among women. These are a few of the findings about women's health released in a new report, Women's Health and Mortality Chartbook, prepared by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women's Health.

The book is a collection of current state data on critical issues relating to women's health. The report ranks 27 health indicators, including death rates, health risk factors, preventive care, and health insurance coverage.

Although no state scored the best in all indicators, several patterns emerged from the data. For instance, 8 of the 10 states with the highest death rates from stroke were in the South. Colorado, Hawaii, and Utah had the lowest death rates for heart disease and cancers. States in the Northeast had the highest proportion of women who'd recently undergone mammograms and cholesterol screenings.
