Incidents involving people trying to enter hospitals or gather information about them have prompted the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to issue a bulletin urging hospital staff to stay alert for suspicious behavior. Several incidents involved people posing as physicians or surveyors for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

 

Several recent incidents occurred in New Jersey. Gretchen Michael, spokesperson for the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, encourages everybody at hospitals to remain vigilant. A nurse who sees someone who looks out of place should ask, "Can I help you?" and report anything out of the ordinary to security.
