I am writing to express my concern at an oversight in AJN 's listing of ways readers can help victims of Hurricane Katrina ("If You Want to Help Victims of Hurricane Katrina," October). You neglected to mention the American Nurses Foundation's Katrina Fund, which was established to offer aid to nurses who were affected by the hurricane.

One hundred percent of all funds donated to this fund will be contributed to assist nurses in the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Additionally, funds will be provided to assist nurses in opening their homes to families or nurses who have been evacuated.

Because AJN is the official journal of the ANA, I think this omission is significant, particularly in light of the fact that AJN did list the California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee (CNA/NNOC) as an organization accepting volunteers. CNA/NNOC has been active in raiding collective bargaining units represented by the ANA's state nurses associations. While we appreciate the organization's efforts on behalf of hurricane victims, we feel that CNA/NNOC being listed rather than ANF is highly inappropriate.

Please encourage readers to go to http://www.nursingworld.org/anf/katrina.htm to make a donation to fellow nurses whose lives have been uprooted by this devastating natural disaster.
