As executive director of the Arizona Healthcare Leadership Academy, I applaud Susan Hassmiller for drawing attention to the subject of leadership skills in nurses ("Are You the Best Leader You Can Be?" February). The Arizona Healthcare Leadership Academy was not included in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation list that accompanied Hassmiller's article. It's a partnership of the University of Arizona College of Nursing, the Eller College of Management, and the Arizona Nurses Association. We've based our curriculum on competencies in nursing leadership developed by the Arizona Organization of Nurse Executives and the Arizona Nurses Association. In just two years, we've had more than 300 graduates from more than 40 facilities in Arizona. Visit http://www.azhcleadership.org for more information.
