AMIA's Third Annual Nursing Informatics Symposium will be held November 11, 2006, in Washington, DC.

The symposium, hosted by AMIA and cosponsored by ANI and HIMSS, will focus on regional health information organizations (RHIOs). National initiatives are prompting the development of RHIOs. For these RHIOs to support the practice and delivery of nursing care by the 2.8 million nurses in multiple care settings in the United States, nurses must be more involved in the development, governance, and technology management related to these RHIOs.

This 1-day symposium, chaired by Annelle Tanner, EdD, MSN, RN, will bring RHIO experts from across the country together with leaders in nursing informatics to discuss issues relevant to the development and function of RHIOs as well as an exploration of the specific extension of the role of nurses in patient safety and advocacy.

Registration for the symposium opened in June. For more information, visit http://www.amia.org/mbrcenter/wg/ni/.
