I appreciated C. Erwin Johnson's May Viewpoint ("'Those People'"), which describes the problem of health care barriers for the poor and notes the irony that the working poor provide essential everyday services for us all. There are some organizations trying to be part of the solution, such as Bethesda Health Clinic in Tyler, Texas, a nonprofit clinic where health care providers can volunteer and patients can, in many cases, receive primary care services for under $20.
