Anne M. Domonoske is a nursing student at Baker University School of Nursing in Topeka, Kansas. For a first-year course, Concepts in Nursing, students are required to write a paper and create a poster about a specific nursing concept; Domonoske chose the nursing diagnosis of risk for loneliness and made this sculpture in place of a poster. Both the figure's huddled posture and the text and images layering its surface convey information about the subject. Domonoske also works per diem as an emergency medical technician at Coffey County Emergency Medical Services in Burlington, Kansas, and as a phlebotomist at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.
Domonoske says, "I decided to make a sculpture because I enjoy making things with my hands and I didn't think I could convey the idea of loneliness as well in a two-dimensional format. Making it helped me to understand that a person's emotional reactions to illness or injury can have great impact on the outcome.
